Goss Rogers, returns from the DC area to his home state. His attractive girlfriend despises “this hick haven,” but sticks around because, “the eroticism he had brought to her was as intoxicating as anything she had ever known.” Later, she begins to question his strange behavior, including his attempt to solve a local mystery by bunking down in a snake-infested graveyard. One night, a horribly disfigured local breaks into their shack and attempts to rape her, but she is saved by Goss at the last minute. Later Goss is attacked by a viscous dog, but during the attack the dog is horribly mutilated and killed by an unidentified creature. During Goss’s recovery, he is treated by a female doctor who takes a shine to him and later seduces him.
